RED ROSE, WHITE ROSE
“Red Rose, White Rose” is a Chinese novel written by the female writer Eileen Chang in 1944. It tells the story of the protagonist Tong Zhenbao's emotional entanglements with two women, his lover “Jiaorui”, the Red Rose, and his wife “Yanli”, the White Rose. In the novel, the hero was struggling with two relationships. He can't go against the traditional ethics to be with the red rose, and he can't give up his inner passion to live peacefully with the white rose. Finally, both relationships fell apart. He projected his inner desire on the two women, like viewing things through rose-tinted spectacles. This multidisciplinary artwork takes the concept from this novel and breaks away from the original setting to create a new interactive relationship between art and its audience.
