OEDIPUS THE KING
'Partita' was presented as one of the performances of the ‘New Graces’ festival organized by the AAIS collective at Teatro Aberto in Lisbon. The AAIS collective, in collaboration with the Teatro Aberto in Lisbon, Portugal, brought the festival ‘New Graces’ from May 29 to June 3, 2023. The festival situates a discourse on the fidelity that individuals have towards their idiosyncrasies and intimacies as a contestable entity when pitted against the epistemic understanding of what is considered to be graceful. Employing the Portuguese play ‘Three Women in Iron Mask’ by Augustina Bessa Luis as an overarching framework the cohort delves deeper into the promiscuity of what being a grace and graceful is as an ontology, and also as a methodology to conjure contemporary art. 'Partita' is a multidisciplinary performance combining a variety of medias like installations, costumes, projections, sounds and body movement. This work is based on John Bowlby's attachment theory and we created three characters according to different personality types under different households. Through their interactions with each other, it presents the process of self-discovery and mutual exploration as in growing up.
